VOPAK Pile Encapsulation
Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands
During a five-year project for Vopak at the Port of Rotterdam, DUC cleaned and protected various steel piles. The piles are cleaned using a high-pressure water jet and then protected by installing a jacket into which two-component epoxy resin is injected.
The resin cures in approximately 24 hours and bonds the jacket to the pile. The effect is to give the steel piles a 1 cm thick coating. This prevents the pile from corroding at the wind/ water line.
